10 key factors of BIM workflow in BD House Project

What a pleasure to share a success case story about one of our ARCHICAD customers that has started working with ARCHICAD around 2-3 years ago. Of course, always the definition of success is subjective, but for us as distributor and training center of GRAPHISOFT in Spain, seeing our customer creativity and confident unleash in their workflow bring us feeling of success. Yesterday, case study of BD House project, designed by Xavier Vilalta and his talented ARCHICAD team (Candela Juan, Project Manager | Dolors Ollero, Project Leader) published in GRAPHISOFT.com, which pinned their project not only as a good architectural design, but also as one of the ARCHICAD reference projects available to the world.

I recommend you read the full story of this case study in GRAPHISOFT website, available both in English and Spanish, but here I would like to highlight 10 key factors of ARCHICAD and BIM workflow that have been used in this project:

3D modeling of the house with ARCHICAD;
Optimization of materials and equipment with real specifications;
Development of construction details generated from sections;
MEP design and modeling using GRAPHISOFT MEP modeler;
Collision detection analysis for MEP elements against architectural and structural elements
List of elements such as doors and windows according to categories (these lists were helpful in creating the bill of quantities faster and more accurately);
Data access in construction site through BIMx (visualization on site thanks to the BIMx tool and renders to explain each space to the clients, the contractor and sub-contractors);
Quick update of plans with the publish settings of ARCHICAD;
Coordination with other specialties through IFC export.
Teamwork, which brings the possibility of working at the same time with all the designers on the project through GRAPHISOFT BIMcloud basic.

These 10 key factors may sound simple workflow for the ones who are deeply involved in BIM consultancy and implementation, but from our experience, most of BIM software users are not taking full advantage of all these factors (and many more factors perhaps). Therefore, our congratulations go to Vilalta Architects and their two BIM enthusiasts’ architects (Candela and Dolores) who learned, enjoyed, and took good advantage of ARCHICAD.
