RFA & RVT Geometry Exchange with Archicad

Archicad and Revit are the most widely used BIM authoring solutions in the world, with many supporters of one tool or another. From now on, the antagonism between supporters will be smoothened through new collaboration possibilities offered by GRAPHISOFT. In this post, we are happy to announce that since mid-October 2020, the new RFA & RVT Geometry Exchange add-on for Archicad is available to download. This add-on enables Archicad users to import RFA (Revit Families) into their Archicad project as objects, including doors and windows. It will also allow Archicad users to hotlink, import and export RVT geometry (Revit projects) in and out of Archicad. So, if you are an Archicad user, and you want to collaborate with users of Autodesk Revit, keep reading this article.

GRAPHISOFT widely support openBIM and different methods of data exchange between the two major BIM authoring solutions (Archicad and Revit). That is the reason GRAPHISOFT previously developed an add-on for Revit to support a better IFC Model Exchange with Archicad (now available for Revit 2021). Although the concept of this new add-on for Archicad and the previous add-on for Revit is to facilitate the information flow between the two BIM software, these two add-ons have distinct functionality. So, it is essential to understand both concepts.

IFC Model Exchange with Archicad add-on

It is a free add-on for Autodesk Revit that improves the IFC model-based and bi-directional data exchange between Archicad and Revit. It allows:

An improved IFC model import to Revit.
To merge IFC models into Revit as a non-editable reference.
To export Revit model in IFC files that are specially enhanced for use in GRAPHISOFT Archicad.

For Archicad
RFA & RVT Geometry Exchange add-on

It is a free Add-on for Archicad that allows to import and export 3D models via native Revit file formats (.RVT and .RFA.). It allows:

To import Revit Families to Archicad as native Archicad objects with the same precise geometry and all parameters.
To import and export elements via Revit RVT files, with their precise geometry and parameters (as non-editable content), for coordination and model referencing purposes.
To link and reference to RVT files both in Archicad single project or via BIMcloud
